How We Collect & Access
* Collection Scenarios
When you use features related to network environment security (e.g., WiFi security scanning, network threat protection), we collect location information through the following methods:
Precise Location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION): Obtained via GPS, mobile network signals, or connected WiFi base station information.
Approximate Location (ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION): Inferred from mobile network cell towers or the general coverage area of public WiFi hotspots.
Background Location (ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION): Used only when continuously monitoring network security in the background (e.g., periodic scans for malicious WiFi hotspots).
* Storage & Processing
Location data is temporarily stored in the device’s local memory for real-time network analysis and is not persistently saved.
All location data is encrypted on the device and shared with AccuWeather for accurate weather information when needed (aggregated geographic data only, no personal identifiers).
Purpose of Use
Location information is used for the following core functionalities:
WiFi Security Scanning
Identifying high-risk public WiFi (e.g., unsecured networks, spoofed hotspots) to prevent man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks.
Analyzing WiFi SSID, BSSID, and encryption types, combined with location data, to assess network trustworthiness (e.g., distinguishing home networks from public networks).
When you use a location-enabled Weather app service, we may detect your general location to provide the accurate weather information of your general area automatically. If you don’t allow it, we’re unable to collect direct location information, you may manually enter a location to get the weather information of your location.
